Hi friends, I don’t know how else to put this todo se siente nublado. I’m writing this on behalf of my family, all of us holding the same ache. We lost our cousin Ricky late last night. He fought so hard, and it’s been incredibly heavy on all of us. He will be so dearly missed. Mi primo who will leave the colonia that raised him quieter, like even the rough winds will slow and the birds will hush in his absence. Mi primo who had so many more stories to tell and laughter to share. Right now we’re trying to come together and figure everything out, but the funeral expenses are more than we expected. Con todo respeto y con todo el corazón we are kindly asking for mutual aid. If you’re able to help at all, even a little, it would truly mean so much to us. Sharing this or keeping us in your thoughts helps more than you know. I’m crying as I write this. The last time I saw him, I promised our next breakfast would be on me, not knowing that would be our last time together. Now all I have are flashes of us as kids, the sound of his laughter bursting through the cotorreo at family gatherings, but mostly the way he carried joy so easily and handed it out like it cost him nothing.
