It provides a comprehensive understanding of water’s journey, from its origin to the different cleaning stages, distribution, personal consumption, and the necessary actions for its conservation. In this exhibit visitors can actively engage with the experience through activating interactive mechanical elements, reading labels, analyzing their content and later on implementing water conservation tips. Ayuda a comprender el recorrido del agua, desde su origen hasta las distintas etapas de limpieza, distribución, consumo personal y las acciones necesarias para se conservación. The International Museum of Art & Science’s The Studio interactive gallery allows you to explore the fundamentals of art and science through light, color, sound, shape, and motion. In this exhibit you can play with light, experiment with sound, design unique patterns, and more! The Studio is a new space where symmetry, geometry, pattern, and composition come together with color, light, movement and sound. The Studio ignites your creativity and sparks a love for artistic and scientific exploration! This is your last chance to explore Uncovering the Valley: Sheldon Site Collection at Speer Memorial Library in Mission! The exhibit comes down this Sunday, October 25. Created through a partnership between IMAS and the UTRGV CHAPS Program, the exhibit highlights archaeological discoveries from the Sheldon Site in Sullivan City, including artifacts connected to Indigenous peoples who inhabited the region over thousands of years. Visitors can also explore geological materials from the Ancient Landscapes of South Texas Geoheritage project, connecting millions of years of natural history to the Valley we know today. Stop by before it’s gone and discover the rich archaeological and geological history of South Texas! Next Saturday, November 7, join us at IMAS for an afternoon of storytelling, science and space exploration with two Smithsonian Channel film screenings. At 1 PM, explore the incredible history of NASA’s Space Shuttle program in “America’s Secret Space Heroes: Space Shuttle.” Then at 2 PM, revisit one of humanity’s greatest achievements with “The Day We Walked on the Moon,” featuring the story and behind-the-scenes moments of Apollo 11’s historic lunar landing. TWO WEEKS LEFT to experience Lowrider Culture in the United States! On exhibit through Sunday, November 15 at the International Museum of Art & Science 1900 W. Nolana Ave. McAllen, TX Organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service in collaboration with the National Museum of American History and the National Museum of the American Latino. Lowriding is more than a car culture. It is a tradition rooted in Mexican American communities dating back to the 1940s, representing creativity, identity, family, and cultural pride. Through custom vehicles, vibrant photography, artwork, and objects, this exhibition explores the history and influence of lowriding throughout the United States. What makes this exhibition especially meaningful at IMAS is the involvement of our own Rio Grande Valley lowrider community. Many of the objects and contributions featured in the exhibition come directly from local collectors, artists, and community members who have helped preserve and share this important part of our region’s cultural history.
