✨ What a night! ✨
Last week we welcomed our incredible members to an unforgettable evening at IMAS as we opened “諸行無常_this too, shall pass” by Mayuko Ono Gray mayuko_ono_gray . 🎨
Walking through her stunning graphite drawings alongside the artist herself was truly a highlight. The way she weaves Japanese calligraphic tradition and Western drawing practices into each piece left us inspired and moved.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out— your support for the arts and our museum means the world. 💙 To our members: you’re the reason evenings like this happen, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Missed the reception? No worries—there’s still time to experience the exhibition. Tap the link in our bio for more details and come explore this beautiful dialogue between the tangible and the intangible.
On EXHIBITION at UTRGV - The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley:
Mujeres Innovadoras: Cultural Artistry Over Time
August 9, 2025 – December 18, 2025
at UTRGV Main Campus Library
The IMAS is grateful for the support from and collaboration with the UTRGV Center for Latin American Arts and the UTRGV Main Campus Library for hosting this outreach exhibition on campus.
UTRGV summer interns were able to research, curate, install, and exhibit a selection of works from the IMAS Mexican and Latin American Folk Art Collection. The exhibit examines the important, yet often-overlooked role women play in the transmission of traditional knowledge in communities in Mexico. The exhibit will be up for the Fall 2025 semester.
The practice, by women, of traditional artforms in their communities highlights mastery, adaptation, and innovation through the use of new and different materials, concepts, and cultural influences. It is all too common for the contributions of women to be overlooked in history, Mujeres Innovadoras: Cultural Artistry Over Time presents not only the work, tools, and traditions of talented craftswomen but also the ways in which they create and sustain their communities. The works presented embody the sense of comfort and belonging these women help cultivate, while carrying forward traditions that continue to inspire future generations.
