Organized by the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum in collaboration with IMAS, the exhibition explores the artist’s thinking through muralism, architecture, education, collecting, and his commitment to social transformation, revealing the enduring relevance of a legacy that continues to inspire new generations. Nolana Ave, McAllen, TX Open: Wed. - Sat. 10AM-5PM Sun. 1-5PM Piñatabstract is a celebration and multimedia exploration of the piñata tradition through craft, performance, large scale work and new media. The solo exhibition includes sculptural installations, wearable art, recycled paper, video and ceramic work. About the Artist Josuè Rawmirez is a multidisciplinary artist from Ciudad Mante, Tamaulipas. He lives and practices in Esto’k Gna land or the Rio Grande Valley along the Texas-Mexico border where he is inspired by the landscapes of the delta, its visual language and everyday practices. Ramírez explores his identity and recontextualizes cultural practices and crafts that question the historic norm and provide a new vision for a shared visual language and experience.

We’re so excited to all those who joined us for the Smithsonian K-12 Teacher Workshop: Creating Portraits of Community this past weekend at IMAS! 🎨📸   Thanks to the support of The Smithsonian Campaign for Our Shared Future, IMAS, a Smithsonian Affiliate, guided teachers through an incredible day of utilizing photography and oral history to capture our communities and bring those stories into your classroom, building from the Smithsonian American Art Museum curriculum. The IMAS has partnered with UTRGV CHAPS Program to install an exhibit at the Speer Memorial Library in Mission, on exhibit now through early October. The IMAS Curatorial Team along with interns from the UTRGV Anthropology Department created an exhibit highlighting an archeological excavation in 1976-1977 at the Sheldon Site in Sullivan City, which was inhabited bv Indigenous, Native American peoples at different points in time over the past several thousand years. The CHAPS team put together an exhibit that highlights several natural history aspects "uncovered" for our Ancient Landscapes of South Texas Geoheritage project.
