Meet #UncoveredSpaces #Artist: Zac Thompson (they/their/them) The exhibition “Uncovered Spaces,” featuring women and LGBTQIA+ artists, will open from March 26, 2022 - July 10, 2022, at the IMAS in McAllen, Texas in collaboration with Raheleh Filsoofi Raheleh Filsoofi of Vanderbilt University and the Vanderbilt Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies. Vanderbilt Art Artist Statement The white evangelical family Zac Thompson was born into didn’t make room for queer non-binary artists, let alone drag performers. Since they’re both of those things, the myopic traditionalist world their parents made for them growing up felt too small. To make room, they’ve had to build their own queer worlds by using their work to playfully expand the limiting normative structures around home, family, and gender that they grew up with, through a combination of drawing, photography, zine-making, and performance. Uncovered Spaces is made possible by the generous financial support of grants from The Alice Kleberg Reynolds Foundation, The Raul Tijerina Jr. Foundation, The The Hollyfield Foundation, H-E-B, Vanderbilt Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies, and UTRGV’s Center for Latin American Arts claa.utrgv. Uncovered Spaces is directed by Dr. Katherine McAllen, Assistant Professor of Art History and Director of the Center for Latin American Arts at UTRGV - The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley @utrgvcofa Stay tuned for more artist features ahead of this incredible exhibit opening at the IMAS March 26th! https://theimasonline.org/uncovered-spaces/ #IMASartist #ExploreIMAS
