On October 8, the main event of the Planta Nativa VIP (Very Important Plants) Night is a special keynote presentation by popular Youtube and social media personality Cyrus Harp of the Paleo Foraging. Harp is a foraging instructor, ethnobiology researcher, and paleolithic technology expert with decades of research and experience with how people historically used, and can still use, native plants for sustenance. Harp also authored the book “Native Food Plants of Texas”, and will bring copies to sell and sign. The keynote presentation starts at 7:30 PM.

Planta Nativa night also includes native plant sales, food and beverage vendors, and a small marketplace. Community partners from UT Rio Grande Valley, American Forests, Texas A&M Forest Service, Native Plant Society of Texas, the Native Plant Project, and others, will also be there to share their knowledge and work with native plants in the RGV. From research posters to a taproot demonstration, along with seed giveaways, attendees will be able to learn a wealth of information about our native plants.
