As many of you know, the Flying Walrus has had to endure several unwarranted attacks by its own city of McAllen in recent months. The stress of these events has taken a strong toll on our Owner, GM, Booking Manager and Front of the House Manager, James Alexander, which culminated in his hospitalization just a few weeks ago. A number of staff, doctors and friends have advised James to “ take it easy and lean on them for help”. Among them was @wheres_steven25 who has handled the majority of door and security duties for several years now. Steven has also grown as a promoter and booking agent himself in his time at The Walrus. So in the spirit of solidarity, growth and hope for the future we proudly announce that the decision has been made to name Steven Guerrero the new Booking and Assistant Floor Manager for The Flying Walrus.
We are exciting for what Steven brings to the Flying Walrus. His sincere love for the community has always been undeniable and his hard work and friendship have not gone unnoticed. We hope you all join us in congratulating Steven and most of all thanking him for his past efforts and support him in his journey forward.

Throwback Thursday! The first week of November is always one of the biggest for the Rio Grande Valley birding community — it’s Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival time! 🐦

A couple Saturdays ago, November 1st, we had the honor of participating in the Texas Butterfly Festival at the National Butterfly Center There was a whole kaleidoscope of butterflies—and of people—out enjoying them! 🦋✨
A huge thank-you to our gracious hosts and to everyone who stopped by our booth to say hello.
In the afternoon, we were treated to a fascinating presentation by Lynette Castillo from Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife. She shared an engaging talk about spiders, weaving in the historical and cultural significance of arachnids—and even inspired the kids to try their hands at building their own spider webs! 🕸️🕷️

As many of you know, the Flying Walrus has had to endure several unwarranted attacks by its own city of McAllen in recent months. The stress of these events has taken a strong toll on our Owner, GM, Booking Manager and Front of the House Manager, James Alexander, which culminated in his hospitalization just a few weeks ago. A number of staff, doctors and friends have advised James to “ take it easy and lean on them for help”. Among them was @wheres_steven25 who has handled the majority of door and security duties for several years now. Steven has also grown as a promoter and booking agent himself in his time at The Walrus. So in the spirit of solidarity, growth and hope for the future we proudly announce that the decision has been made to name Steven Guerrero the new Booking and Assistant Floor Manager for The Flying Walrus. We are exciting for what Steven brings to the Flying Walrus. His sincere love for the community has always been undeniable and his hard work and friendship have not gone unnoticed. 🌿🦋 So many good things happening lately! It’s been hard to find time to share them all. A couple Saturdays ago, November 1st, we had the honor of participating in the Texas Butterfly Festival at the National Butterfly Center There was a whole kaleidoscope of butterflies—and of people—out enjoying them! 🦋✨ A huge thank-you to our gracious hosts and to everyone who stopped by our booth to say hello. In the afternoon, we were treated to a fascinating presentation by Lynette Castillo from Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife. She shared an engaging talk about spiders, weaving in the historical and cultural significance of arachnids—and even inspired the kids to try their hands at building their own spider webs! 🕸️🕷️ Also, huge congrats to our raffle winner (last photo) from the Butterfly Festival - Raquel Benitez!
