Our first Horse Crippler cactus (Echinocactus texensis) flowers are out and White-eyed Vireos and Curve-billed Thrashers are singing; it's been beautiful in the park. Guests are welcome to join the Walk with a Naturalist program tomorrow, 9am - 10am, to learn more about the flora and fauna of Quinta Mazatlan. Program is included with park admission ($3 adults, $2 seniors & children).

By the numbers, March and April are the best months of the year to see the Valley's various cacti in bloom. We're already seeing species like Junior Tom Thumb cactus and Pincushion Cactus with flowers, while others like the Ladyfinger cactus and the Horse Crippler cactus are developing flower buds. Oh, and if you're looking for areas to potentially go enjoy cacti and other spring wildflowers, we have a list of sites across the RGV that are good for walking and enjoying our local plants and animals. Happy Spring! quintamazatlan.com/birding-nature
