That Cut article on “Ugly Cakes” hit a nerve. I’m a small baker, and yes — I make cakes that are bold, nostalgic, sparkly, a little wild. And guess what? People love them. I love them. Not everything has to be sleek or minimal to be beautiful. Some of us find joy in the loud, the quirky, the over-the-top. And that joy? It’s real. It’s valid. And it deserves respect. So no — I’m not baking for Instagram likes. I’m baking for people who want to feel something when they celebrate. I’m baking for joy, whimsy, and wonder — especially when the world tries to make us feel small. ✨ Just because someone at The Cut said cakes like mine are “ugly” doesn’t make it true. I’m not baking for algorithms or aesthetics. I’m baking for JOY. For big feelings. For people who light up when they see a cake that’s bold, nostalgic, sparkly, or just a little bit weird — because that’s what makes it beautiful. You don’t have to get it. But you also don’t get to shame it. This isn’t a trend to me — it’s art. It’s therapy. It’s a love letter to the people who still believe in celebration. So yeah… let people eat cake.
