The McAllen Heritage Center is proud to celebrate Black History Month! We honor the trailblazing figures whose courage and leadership helped shape our nation. Bessie Coleman was the first African American woman and the first Native American to earn a pilot’s license, breaking racial and gender barriers in aviation and inspiring generations to dream bigger. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led the modern Civil Rights Movement through nonviolent protest, championing equality, justice, and the end of segregation in America. Frederick Douglass, a formerly enslaved man turned powerful orator, writer, and abolitionist, used his voice and pen to fight slavery and advocate for freedom and equal rights for Black Americans. Join us at the McAllen Heritage Center as we honor their legacies and continue to celebrate the stories, strength, and achievements of Black history.
